In North Korea, it is very difficult to obtain a smartphone. The phones that are available are mostly cheap knock-offs of popular models. North Koreans are not allowed to access the Internet or foreign media, so smartphones are not as necessary as they are in other countries.<\/p>\n

What kind of phones do North Koreans have? <\/h2>\n

North Korea’s smartphones are some of the most exclusive in the world. They are custom-built to help keep citizens of the Hermit Kingdom up-to-date with, well, not much, as there’s no Internet. However, the smartphones (called ‘touch phones’ locally) include some great apps.<\/p>\n

It’s interesting to see that even though Ordinary North Koreans are not permitted to own or use iPhones, a 15-inch Macbook Pro was on display at the Kumsusan Memorial Palace as part of the elder Kim’s memorabilia. This just goes to show how much of a difference there is between the average North Korean citizen and the elite class.<\/p>\n
