The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or North Korea, is a highly isolated and repressive country. Due to the government’s policies and restrictions, travel to North Korea is very difficult and requires special permission. In recent years, the number of tourists visiting North Korea has been increasing, but it is still a very small number compared to other countries. Since the outbreak of the Korean War, the United States has maintained a policy of non-recognition towards North Korea. This means that Americans are not allowed to go to North Korea, and North Koreans are not allowed to go to America. The restrictions in place previously restricted Americans’ ability to engage in direct exchange activities with DPRK citizens, have direct contact with North Korean individuals within the DPRK, and travel by train between Sinuiju and Pyongyang.<\/p>\n
