Since the end of World War II in 1945, North Korea has been ruled by the Kim family. The first leader was Kim Il-sung, who was born in 1912 and died in 1994. He was followed by his son, Kim Jong-il, who was born in 1941 and died in 2011. The current leader is Kim Jong-un, who is Kim Jong-il’s son and was born in 1983.<\/p>\n

The Kim family has been able to maintain their power in North Korea for several reasons. First, they have been able to create a cult of personality around themselves. Both Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il were able to convince the North Korean people that they were divine leaders who had been sent by the heavens to rule over them. This has helped to keep the people loyal to the Kim family.<\/p>\n

Second, the Kim family has been able to use brute force to keep people in line. They have a large and well-trained military that they have been afraid to use against their own people. However, they have used it to keep people from leaving the country and to suppress any internal dissent.<\/p>\n
