The few who are able to make it to South Korea face an uncertain future, as they are not welcomed by the government and are often discriminated against.<\/p>\n

There are many ways that people escape North Korea. Some people cross the borders into China or South Korea. Others use tunnels or boats to get out of the country. Some people are even able to fly out of North Korea on planes.<\/p>\n

Can a person escape from North Korea? <\/h2>\n

It is estimated that between 76% and 84% of North Korean defectors have fled to China or South Korea. Every year, there are over 1,000 people who escape from North Korea, often risking their lives in the process.<\/p>\n

Many North Korean defectors have harrowing stories of abuse, starvation, and torture. They often face discrimination and isolation in their new countries, and struggle to adjust to life outside of North Korea.<\/p>\n
