North Korea is a nation that is largely isolated from the rest of the world. Due to this isolation, North Koreans have very little knowledge about the outside world. What they do know is largely based on propaganda from the government. This propaganda paints a picture of a world that is hostile to North Korea and its people. U.S. citizens in North Korea have been subject to arbitrary arrest and long-term detention. In some cases, detainees have been imprisoned in conditions that constitute torture. If you choose to travel to North Korea despite this warning, you should have no expectation of privacy, including in your hotel room, and you should assume that your activities in North Korea are being monitored.<\/p>\n

The North Korean government has placed a ban on all forms of birth control, making it nearly impossible to obtain a condom. This has created a major problem for women in the country, as they are unable to access sanitary pads or tampons. Instead, they are forced to use old-school reusable pads which they are expected to wash after each use. This is a major health hazard and is causing a lot of discomfort for women in North Korea.<\/p>\n

It is estimated that there are between 200,000 and 400,000 Christians in North Korea. There is no shortage of booze in North Korea, and no limit on consumption. Soju is the main drink of choice and is a clear spirit made from rice, wheat or barley. It could even be considered a national pastime – much like life in South Korea, China and much of East Asia.<\/p>\n
