Introduction:

North Korea’s past aggression and their repeated attempts to threaten the US with missiles have left many wondering why does North Korea want to bomb America. Over the years, the regime in North Korea has developed the capability to build a powerful arsenal to hit US soil. To understand the motivations of the North Korean regime, it is important to look at their past actions and their current rhetoric. In doing so, one can see that the primary motivation of North Korea to bomb the US is to gain a greater international influence, create economic stability, and gain independence and freedom.

History of Nuclear Missile Program

North Korea has had a long history of developing and testing nuclear weapons and long range missiles despite multiple UN resolutions and numerous sanctions. Their goal was to build a powerful nuclear arsenal capable of hitting US soil. It was reported in July 2020 that North Korea had completed their first Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) tests. Further, in March 2021, North Korea tested a new submarine-launched ballistic missile. While the purpose of these tests remains unknown, it could be a sign of the North Korean regime’s attempt to gain leverage over the US.

It is important to note that North Korea has conducted many of these tests in defiance of international norms and agreements. In response to these tests, the US government has increased economic sanctions in order to put pressure on the North Korean regime. The US has also deployed military assets to the region as a deterrence measure.
