It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Otto Warmbier. Otto was a delightful young man who was loved by all who knew him. He was an outstanding student at the University of Virginia and had a bright future ahead of him.
In December 2016, Otto was detained in North Korea while on a visit. He was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for allegedly subverting the North Korean government. In June 2017, he was released by North Korea in a vegetative state and died shortly afterwards.
This is a tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers are with Otto’s family and friends during this difficult time.
