The international community has responded in a number of ways, including working to raise awareness of the North Korean human rights situation, providing humanitarian assistance to North Koreans, and pressing for reform within North Korea.
The current plan is to continue to put pressure on North Korea through sanctions while also working towards a diplomatic solution.

However, as of September 1st, 2017, the U.S. Department of State has banned all American citizens from traveling to North Korea. This ban was put in place due to the increasing risk of detention and violence against Americans in the country. Americans who violate the ban may be subject to a fine and up to 10 years in prison.

The international community must continue to put pressure on North Korea through economic sanctions and diplomatic efforts. Military action should be a last resort, as it would likely lead to a devastating conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
